Getting started
What do I need to use Lifehand?
- An iPhone running iOS 18 or later.
- An account: Sign in with Apple, Google, or a one-time code sent to your email.
- For AI sorting, your own API key from Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI. It's optional: without one, Lifehand sorts your captures with built-in rules.
Can I use Lifehand without an AI key?
Yes. Without a key, captures are sorted by built-in rules on your phone, and nothing is sent to any AI provider. Keywords help the rules: "for OpenFlight", "project: Studio", "by Friday", "takes two hours", "important", "actually". Your week, your day and your reminders all still work.
The rules are simpler than a model, especially with long, rambling voice notes. Add a key any time in Settings → AI Connection.
What notifications will Lifehand send?
Only the ones you keep on: the Sunday plan, a morning brief, an optional evening wrap-up, and reminders you asked for. Quiet hours hold anything non-urgent; reminders you set yourself still fire. No streaks, no "you haven't opened the app" nudges. Change all of it in Settings → Notifications.
What does Lifehand do with my calendar?
It reads today's events on your phone to size your day, and when you approve a day it writes time blocks only to its own "Lifehand" calendar in Apple Calendar. Your other calendars stay untouched. Calendar data never leaves your phone. If you say no to calendar access, everything else still works.
Your AI key
How do I get a Claude API key?
- Go to console.anthropic.com and sign up or log in.
- Open Billing, add a payment method and buy some prepaid credit. Start small; you can top up later.
- Open API keys and choose Create key. Name it "Lifehand".
- Copy the key right away. It starts with sk-ant- and is shown only once.
- In Lifehand, open Settings → AI Connection, choose Claude, paste the key and run the test.
A Claude Pro or Max subscription does not include API access. The API is billed separately, by usage, in the Console.
How do I get an OpenAI API key?
- Go to platform.openai.com/api-keys and sign up or log in.
- Under Billing, add a payment method and buy some prepaid credit.
- Back on the API keys page, choose Create new secret key and name it "Lifehand".
- Copy the key right away. It starts with sk- and is shown only once.
- In Lifehand, open Settings → AI Connection, choose OpenAI, paste the key and run the test.
ChatGPT subscriptions are billed separately from the API, so you need API credit even if you pay for ChatGPT.
Claude or OpenAI: which should I pick?
We recommend Claude, especially for long, messy voice captures. Both work, and the app behaves the same with either. You can switch any time in Settings → AI Connection.
What will the AI cost me?
It depends on how much you capture and on your provider's prices, which they set and can change. You pay your provider directly. Lifehand adds nothing on top and earns nothing from it.
Most of the cost comes from captures, since each one is a request. Your week plan and weekly review are one request each per week. Daily plans are worked out on your phone without calling the AI.
To stay in control:
- Set a monthly spend limit in your provider's console.
- Watch the usage page there for your first week or two.
- Buy a small amount of prepaid credit first and top up later.
Current prices: Anthropic pricing, OpenAI pricing.
Where is my key stored? Can Lifehand see it?
Your key is stored in your iPhone's Keychain, on that device only, and sent only to the provider you chose. Requests go straight from your phone to the provider. Our server never receives your key, your prompts or the responses. You can revoke the key in your provider's console at any time.
Will my provider train on what I say?
Anthropic and OpenAI both say that, by default, data sent through their API is not used to train their models. Policies change, so check your provider's current terms and settings. Lifehand itself never trains models on your data. See the privacy policy.
Your data
What is backed up, and how do I turn it off?
Your tasks, projects, docs, lists, plans and reviews are backed up to our server, encrypted in transit and at rest, so a new phone picks up where you left off. Your captures (what you typed or said) are backed up too, by default.
To keep captures only on your phone, turn off Settings → Privacy & Data → Back up captures. Our server copy of your captures is erased at the next sync. The organized results still back up, because the app needs them to restore your planner and send notifications.
How do I move to a new iPhone?
- Install Lifehand on the new phone and sign in with the same account you used before.
- Your tasks, projects, plans and reviews download automatically, and your captures too if Back up captures was on.
- Paste your AI key again in Settings → AI Connection. For your security, the key never leaves the phone it was entered on.
- Allow calendar and notification access again when the app asks.
Your purchase is tied to your Apple Account. If the app doesn't recognize it, tap Restore Purchases on the Account screen.
How do I export my data?
Open Settings → Privacy & Data → Export everything. Lifehand creates one JSON file with your captures, tasks, projects, docs, lists, plans, completed items and reviews, and opens the share sheet so you can save it to Files or send it anywhere. We keep no copy of the file.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete all data, or Account → Delete account. Your account and everything on our server are erased right away, permanently, and the app wipes its data on that phone. Copies in our database backups expire within 30 days. Export first if you want a copy.
Deleting the app alone does not delete your account. Deleting your account does not refund an App Store purchase, and it does not touch your AI provider account or your Apple or Google sign-in.
Purchases
How much does Lifehand cost?
Lifehand is a one-time purchase with no subscription. The founding price is $29.99 for the first 500 licenses, then $39.99. These are US prices; the App Store shows the price in your currency.
The price does not include AI usage, which your provider bills you for directly. Lifehand does not include free AI requests. Before you buy, you can download the app, sign in and connect your AI key. There are no free captures: the unlock screen appears once setup is done.
I reinstalled or changed phones. How do I get my purchase back?
Sign in to the App Store with the Apple Account you bought with, then tap Restore Purchases on the Account screen in Lifehand. Restoring never charges you again.
How do I get a refund?
Bought in the App Store: Apple handles all App Store refunds, and we can't issue them ourselves. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com; Apple explains the steps in its support article.
Bought on our website: email chris@forcomstudios.com from the address you bought with, within 14 days of purchase, and we refund you in full. No form, no questions.
AI credit you bought from Anthropic or OpenAI is between you and them.

How do I report a problem?
Email chris@forcomstudios.com with what you did, what you expected and what happened. Your iPhone model and iOS version help, and so does a screenshot.
Never send your API key, to us or anyone. We will never ask for it.
